Our Mission

Balancing Monkey Yoga is a yoga studio that values collaboration. We serve the community through high quality, affordable, accessible classes rooted in yogic philosophy and a love of practice. We believe that yoga is good for all people. We have a commitment to excellence in teaching and evolving an integrated approach to practice. We make yoga accessible with varied offerings and pricing that can meet almost any budget. Teachers offer expert instruction suited to all people, all ages, and from all walks of life. You will be challenged and supported in an atmosphere that promotes peace, solidarity, and connection.

Our Roots

In 2004, Heather Heintz opened Balancing Monkey, a studio in the upstairs of her home. Balancing Monkey grew into a place of sanctuary to practice, gather, share, and be challenged. Balancing Monkey became a treasure to the yoga community, known for its friendly, inviting atmosphere, and creative classes. In 2011, Heather closed her studio in order to give space and time to other endeavors. The Monkey was dearly missed by its loyal patrons and teachers. In 2012, Danielle and Rachel opened the new Balancing Monkey in Hilo Shopping Center with the support of Heather.  In 2019, Rachel became the sole owner.

Our Path

In December 2012, we opened the doors of the new Balancing Monkey Yoga at 1221 Kilauea Ave. with the determination to create a yoga studio where practice is the main intention and high quality, diverse class offerings are available. We hope to honor the intention of the original Balancing Monkey and continue to create the space to evolve over time to meet the needs and expectations of our students. A community space built by and for yoga practitioners, we strive to offer consistency and excellence in teaching. We believe in hard work, passion for practice, and commitment to our community. We feel blessed by the reception Balancing Monkey has received in its new home and look forward to growing along with you.
